Paul Hurschmann Photographer Yoga Teacher Paul Hurschmann is a dedicated, hard working photojournalist and multi-media expert with a versatile portfolio and extensive experience in diverse professional environments. Paul left his job as the Photography Editor at the Observer & Eccentric Newspapers, in suburban Detroit to open a Bikram Yoga studio in Raleigh, North Carolina in Sept. 2004. Photo by Jud Branam He worked previously as the Photography Editor of iRACE (now Speedvision.com), an online magazine providing daily news coverage of 15 series of auto racing. Prior to that, he worked as a freelance photographer, and as a Picture Editor for the Associated Press in New York City. Paul was also the President of the now-defunct National Association of Freelance Photographers . He helped found the organization which sought to protect photographers’ rights and to educate those who use photography. He hass also been a career-long member of the National Press Photographers Association, and the 1999 co-recipient of the organization's Morris Berman Citation, "In recognition of championing the fight to protect the copyrights of photojournalists everywhere." Paul has also belonged to Editorial Photographers. He developed an international database of photographers for editors and art directors called, "Find A Photographer" - "Whether you need a photographer around the block, or around the globe." Although, sadly the site is tragically outdated and underutilized. Paul got started with photography while serving in the U.S. Army. He has worked at newspapers and freelanced for clients such as the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Detroit News and Detroit Free Press and for corporate clients such as Hanes, Nike, Snickers and Dominos Pizza.
